“Moving Together – Connecting Communities Through Movement”

We’re proud to announce a new event at Public Dreams – The Spark! Happening monthly, The Spark is an informal evening event – a thematic creative think-tank where we’ve invited some of the most innovative to sh…are their work with us, engage us in creative activity and provide us with new points of inspiration. This event is for anyone interested in community building through creativity – we hope that it will spark dialogue around community-engaged arts, and help us talk about the work we do and the work we want to do! The theme for the first edition, happening December 8th, at 7:00 pm, is “Moving Together – Connecting Communities Through Movement”.

Featuring:

An Artist Presentation: Kat Single-Dain: A writer director choreographer and co-founder of The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret, an artist collective that creates collaborative interdisciplinary theater with a focus on audience interaction and arts for social change. Kat created and directed the critically acclaimed Hard Times Hit Parade, an immersive theatrical extravaganza set in a Depression era dance marathon, and is currently in post production with the feature film version. Receiving honors from both her BA in Film Production at UBC, and her BFA in Theatre, Dance and Performance at Berkeley, Kat works in the rare and wonderful intersection of character development, clowning, and dance. She has choreographed seven full-length original theatre productions, organizes nearly 200 performers in The Parade of Lost Souls, and teaches workshops everywhere from Terrace, BC to Sierraville, Nevada.

An Activity: “Warm-up” by Jeanette Ageson of Dance Troupe Practice
Jeanette Ageson is a member of Dance Troupe Practice, a movement-based performance collective in Vancouver. Since 2006, Jeanette has been involved in collaboratively creating movement pieces that are sourced from the movements and gestures of dancers and non-dancers alike, including pieces that have been shown at the Vancouver Art Gallery, VIVO, Twelve Minutes Max, Dancing on the Edge, and many performance evenings throughout the city.
