Parade of Lost Souls, isn’t just an event, it’s OUR event! As with all Public Dreams offerings, we want YOU to get involved. Come create something that will be a part of the artistry of the Parade of Lost Souls. Whether it’s learning a dance piece, building a mask, or crafting a remembrance mosaic to become part of the Community Shrine, there are lots of activities to choose from.
PLUS!! We’ve just added two new, performer inspired and led workshops for Saturday Oct. 22nd. Read below for more juicy info!
Get Behind the Scenes: Open-Door Lost Souls Studio
Tuesday, October 18, 5-9pm – Public Dreams Workshop – 141-2050 Scotia St
As we get closer to the festival date and the big task of decorating the whole Secret Souls route, we open up our doors to creative souls who have a helping hand to lend. Join our artists in creating set décor, signage, and lots of other elements to be a part of the Secret Souls Walks. Those who are inspired will be given the opportunity to continue to work on these projects until the event. Please RSVP if you’d like to be included in this workshop, so we know how many people to anticipate – contact us at workshops@publicdreams.org or 604-879-8611.
Topsy Turvy: Whimsical Group Choreography
Sunday, October 23, 2-5pm, Brittania Community Centre – 1661 Napier Street
Working with top hats as prop pieces and simple choreography that anyone can learn, choreographer Kat Single-Dain will take you step-by-step into an enchanting world of gesture and character, to create a historically seasoned ensemble dance piece. Fun and easy. For participants aged 10-100.
Let’s Party Like its 1889: Victorian Zombie Thriller
Thursday, October 20 & Tuesday October 25 7-9pm, Brittania Community Centre – 1661 Napier Street
Our big hit from last year’s workshops was offering the choreography from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. We’re back at it this year, but this time when our Zombies look like they’re right out of the 80’s, we mean the 1880’s. Come out, learn the choreography, don a tail-coat or corset, and then take to the streets as a very refined breed of the undead. Participants learning the dance for the first time are encouraged to attend both workshops, to learn the choreography thoroughly.
Let’s Get Crafty: The Community Creation Lab
Saturday, October 22, 12-5pm & Sunday, October 23, 12-3pm, Brittania Community Centre – 1661 Napier Street
At our drop-in Creation Lab, we’ll be offering 3 different crafts for children, parents, and the young at heart. Working with professional artists, participants will get to make a set of simple Halloween crafts, create a beautiful mask or remembrance mosaics to be hung in our Community Remembrance Shrine on the evening of Secret Souls Walk. Pick your favourite activity, or try your hand at all of them. Each craft should take approx. 1-2 hours, and all are appropriate for ages 6 and up.
THIS JUST IN!! WE’VE ADDED TWO MORE WORKSHOPS for PERFORMERS – SAT OCT. 22ND!
Still looking for ways to add your own flavour to the Parade of Lost Souls. Come work with our Artists at our workshop, to bring life to a whole bundle of marionettes, or don your stilts and come take flight with us!
A Flock of Stilting Birds:
Saturday, Oct 22nd, 1-4pm, Public Dreams Workshop – 141-2050 Scotia St
Marionette Play
Saturday, Ocober 22nd, 4-7pm, Public Dreams Workshop – 141-2050 Scotia St.
Edith Hole from Carnival Sized Cinnamon Hearts, a fabulous local puppetry company, will be facilitating a puppetry workshop to create collaboratively a piece for Parade! You don’t have to have any previous experience and we’ll be using her lovely puppets. If you are a musician, you are invited too, as we also need live music for this, to go hand in hand. Or hand in string, more likely.

I would like to participate in the workshops Topsy Turvy and Let’s Party… do I need to register? What site location at Britiannia Community Centre will they be taking place? Thanks!
