It is with great joy that we welcome you back to Trout Lake for the 24th Illuminares! With new technologies, interactive performances and thousands of you to light the night, this will prove to be a mesmerizing and inspiring evening.

Paper Lanterns Illuminares Festival Public DreamsWorkshops

Our workshop series is in full swing and offers many exciting options. You can build a lantern, experience tempera painting, help craft giant owl puppets or bring songs to life with our community choir. No previous experience is necessary for any of our workshops and all are suitable for anyone aged 6 and up. Small children are most certainly welcome to accompany you, but the activities will be a bit advanced for tiny hands.

Trout Lake

The event at Trout Lake will begin at 6:00pm on Saturday, July 21 and there will be areas for the public to install illuminated works, along with a music space where community and professional musicians will jam together. Community installations can access the park at 5:00pm. If your work is particularly large or requires more setup time, please contact the office and we’ll work with you to ensure that you’re able to fulfill your vision.

We’ve got lots of amazing things planned for you to see, do and experience and will be doing our traditional procession around the lake at 9:45pm. Three different bands will leave from points around the lake to lead the procession. Simply follow a band, and you’ll be led to the finale spot at the northeast corner of the park. The grand finale will be a spectacular 30-person fire show by Radiant Heat at 10:15pm.

The theme for this year’s event is “Let your Bright Light Shine!” Bring something with you to illuminate the night for your community. Whether it’s a lantern, something electronic, or merely your ebullient personality, we want to see your light shining like a beacon across the lake.

Remember that there is no parking at Trout Lake or in any of the nearby neighbourhoods. Please get there by transit, cycle or foot. The nearest Skytrain Station is Commercial-Broadway Station and Trout Lake is serviced by many bus routes. Everything on site is cash only, so please bring cash for admission, food and lantern sales. We’ll have an ATM on site just in case you need it.

We look forward to seeing you!
